Summer is finally here and where we are we are we finally have had our first hot day---yes, the kind of day that makes the 50 degree lake actually feel pretty good! So now that we are going to be heading to the fridge for some cool summer treats, I figured it'd be good to provide you with a short "go-to" list to keep you on track over these summer months.
#1 Oikos Greek Frozen yogurt
#2 Arctic zone ice cream
This is my second choice as far as frozen desserts that make the healthy list. The Greek Yogurt above ranks much better in the taste department than this Arctic Zone dessert. However, if quantity is more valued over quality, than you can eat a whole pint of this stuff for the same calories. However, the taste is a little more bland compared to the frozen yogurt and may leave you desiring the real stuff. However, if you are really counting your calories this summer, this stuff will do the trick as far as giving you the feel of ice cream and may help with that craving without the regret.
#3 Sparkling Ice Water
If you are trying to give up pop or soda, this Sparkling Ice water is the way to go to. It has the same "fizz" and even taste as pop without the caffeine (it has a little due to the Green Tea Extract I think) but still zero calories and no Aspartame like Diet Pop. Plus, if you are a mountain dew lover, the Lemon Lime is a good substitute in my opinion.
There's nothing like a good shake to cool you off on these summer afternoons or after a great morning workout. You hear about it all the time on the Beachbody workouts but Allison and I have been using it everyday for a long time and we honestly swear by the stuff. No, it's not a cure all "drink one shake" and you'll never have a craving again, but if you are consistent with it using it everyday it will help you over time to be more consistent in your diet. And add in extra stuff---it's only 150 calories so half a banana, peanut butter, and coconut water make for an awesome shake and bumps the calories up around where they need to be to make for an actual "meal replacement".

Bonus #5: founders all day ipa
Ok, for all the guys out there I had to include it---after a long day of golf or mowing the lawn, it's nice to pop open a cold one. And I'm sorry, but Bud Light, Coors Light, etc. from my college days just taste awful now (sorry if you enjoy those, have at it...) But nothing satisfies like a good craft beer from a local or small town brewery on a hot summer day. And it's hard to find an IPA beer that is low in calories and this one from Founders in Grand Rapids fits the bill pretty well. I'd still try to limit your alcohol to 3 times per week but this is my go to brew when necessary ;)
