If you are doing the 21 Day Fix Nutrition Plan or Insanity Max:30 and you are following the portion control meal plan, chances are you may experience some hunger from time to time.
And the biggest thing for me is there are sooo many options out there. There's the Dolce Diet to get shredded, there's the Paleo Diet, the Metabolism Diet, and Ketogenic Diet, Carb Cycling... It's endless! And around every corner it's tempting to stray from what you know works to try this new "trend" that may "make the difference".
And even though I've tried some of these new diets, there's always something about it that makes it not work for me, whether it's I'm too hungry, put on weight, low energy, etc.
The reason I go into all of this before I answer the question is that I dabbled again the Low Carb High Fat Diet and after even just a few days started feeling low energy, constant hunger, etc. and just not feeling "awesome" like I typically do. So even though I love playing "guinea pig" and trying new things, I'm in the middle of a freakin' program and need to get results! LOL
So back to basics...
And for me, that's what is proven and what works, which is the 21 Day Fix Meal Plan or the Portion Fix Program.
I started off great with the 3 Day Refresh and then moved into the lowest tier of the Max:30 program which is around 1200-1500 calories. Now, what changed for me was I started upping the amount of live Insanity classes I've been offering and so I was burning more calories so I became even more hungry!
But instead of doing what I know to do in that case (add in more portions according to the list given), I totally jumped ship for a few days and switched diets! Isn't that crazy? I know, right!
I can bet you've probably been there before, though, right? Something doesn't work for a day or two and off you go down a totally different path?
Fortunately I have a Challenge Group of people to help keep my head on straight and stay focused!
So if you are experiencing hunger on the 21 Day Fix or the Max:30 Program, here are a few things you may need to change or experiment with:
1. Are you drinking enough water? I know you hear this all of the time but I'm serious about this! Many times hunger is mistaken for dehydration. So start each morning with 10-12 oz of water to jump start your "water drinking". This was a great habit that the 3 Day Refresh ingrains in you (well, just for 3 days... lol) and it definitely works. So hydrate!
2. You may need to add more containers. Now, there are mixed reviews on "what" to add. If you are doing the 21 Day Fix program specifically, it suggests adding in an extra green container, which will give you some calories but most of all a lot of food for very few calories since it's a veggie.
However, if you are doing Max: 30 it suggests to add in a purple, then a yellow or a red (you get a choice! Freedom! lol), then green. Why? My take on it is that since it's a more intense program, adding in more carbohydrates is going to give you that energy boost that you need to keep pushing through!
3. You may need to go up to a whole different calorie level. If you've been doing multiple rounds of the 21 Day Fix then chances are you've lost some pounds and shed some fat. Now you need to go back up to a maintenance level so you can continue burning calories but still increase in your workout load or energy output. And you can't keep sustaining that on a low calorie diet or meal plan.
And I'd even recommend this for those doing Max:30. They start you out at a very low calorie level so if you are right around where you want to be as far as your weight and are feeling hungry and low energy on the Max: 30 meal plan, email me so we can chat. You may have to add in multiple containers to get you up to where you need to be with your calories so you don't bonk!
