I've just started reading Yuri Elkhaim's book The All Day Energy Diet and although I didn't much care for his review of Shakeology (you can check out my Soap box talk here), his book is actually really good :)
I've only made it through the first few chapters but so far he's really made a case for limiting grains and gluten, sugar, and even caffeine! Yes, the last one really got me because I typically have 2-3 cups per day, plus a pre-workout drink. And sometimes I have a recovery drink which is a high glycemic, high sugar drink to bring you back after an intense workout.
It's a really interesting read and I'm really curious to see how the meal plan works but I'll have a full review coming later :)
In the meantime, I'll be cutting down (or even cutting completely) my caffeine intake (I had all decaf coffee today! Yes... no joke...) I still had my pre-workout drink but no recovery drink. Instead I followed what Shaun T recommends and went for the sweet potatoes!
So far so good though!
This is my post workout meal:
Shakeology (1 Red)
1 cup of lightly cooked Kale (1 Green)
1 cup of cooked sweet potatoes (2 Yellow)
1 cup of cantaloupe (1 Purple)
No crazy high sugar recovery drinks or carb loading here (except for the sweet potato) but I definitely didn't feel a "crash" after this meal was awesome.
One tip for those doing the 21DayFix or InsanityMax30 portion control system-- measure your greens and then cook them. It makes it much easier! I tried fitting steamed spinach in my green container for dinner last night and went through half a bag! Can't do that every night, that's for sure!
